wanting other people doesn’t mean you’re less perfect (*spoilers to Undone Season 1*)

“What is wrong with me,” the sister queries through her tears as she confesses to cheating on her fiancé with a bartender.
“Nothing is wrong with you,” Alma reassures her, “You’re human. You’re not perfect.”

I appreciate the sentiment, but I think she deserves a little better than that.  If I could, I’d say this as the younger sister comforting/confronting her older sister who has just admitted to cheating on her fiancé that she slept with the bartender a week earlier,

“Wanting other people is who you are. Some of us are like that. We want more. Not only more people, but more with those people. It’s not good or bad. It’s just a thing. You wanted that night with a hot bartender. It wasn’t enough just to talk to him. You wanted to feel him. You wanted him a part of you. If only for one night. Or maybe two.

It’s okay.

It doesn’t mean you don’t want your soon to be husband. But it does mean there’s a lot you’ve got to work through.

Just please be honest. The mistake isn’t wanting other people. That doesn’t make your love with your fiancé- husband in less than an hour- any less perfect. If perfect exists. I’m not sure. I am, however, sure that you are no less because of your desires.

The mistake was lying to him in the first place.  And, hey, everyone makes mistakes.  Don’t let anyone think yours is the only sin.  But don’t you think your fiancé deserves the truth? No, I’m not pretending this is gonna be a breeze. You’re bracing yourself to tell the man you love who you really are. Like that’s a piece of cake, uh huh.

Frankly, I’m shocked anyone is honest in a world that punishes honesty and rewards the lies. But I believe you can do it. I know you can do it.

Remember, I will be there when you come clean. If everyone else in the world abandons you, simply for being honest. I will be here for you.

Because I am your sister. And I love you.

…so what do you say?”

I wish I could see her sister’s face when she heard that.
