you can be my safe place, even if i’m not in love with you

I will always be a safe place for you.

You don’t have to be “mine.” I don’t have to be “yours.” I will show you love and respect, regardless of your commitment to me.

My home will always be a sanctuary.

If nobody else will take you in, I will. I’ve had friends stay with me for months, just as I’ve stayed with them. I won’t let you be on the streets or in a home where you feel unsafe. I’ll find a way, even if I have no room in my own house. I’ll help you in any way I can.

This isn’t an analogy. It’s a promise.

I don’t say words I don’t mean. When I say my home is open to you, I mean that you can come into it. I’ll cook meals with you, I’ll share my food and my home and anything I can.

Because we don’t all have someone looking out for us.

I’ve not been there in a long time, but I know how it feels to be helpless. To not have enough to take care of even myself, let alone another human being. It’s one of the worst feelings in the world. And if I can help lessen that for you, I will. Even if it’s just listening to you. You don’t even have to know me, for me to want to listen to you.

My friends are like me. Let them be your safe place, too.

A friend of mine told me that if I needed somewhere to stay, she would open her house to me. She doesn’t have a huge mansion or millions in assets. But what she has, she shares. I’m grateful for all of my friends’ generosity and the sincerity behind it.

If you can do this for someone, share this with them or love this or leave crumbs. We can’t do it on our own. We need to help each other.
